EUROPEAN ROUTE 2007 - 2009

In 2007, PERSPECTIV and three partners started - supported by the Culture Programme of the European Union - to build the "European Route of Historic Theatres".

The aim is to make the historic theatres, this very special common European heritage, better known and more accessible for all citizens.

The new cultural tourism route connects the best preserved, most interesting and most important historic theatres in Europe. All theatres on the European Route can be visited outside performances, either at special opening hours or on appointment.

The first project phase from 2007 to 2009 included the following activities:

  • opening four part routes of the European Route, namely the Nordic Route across Sweden, Norway and Denmark; the Channel Route from the United Kingdom to the Netherlands and Belgium; the German Route; and the Italian Route in northern Italy

  • promoting the European Route with leaflets on the part routes that were distributed in the selected theatres

  • organising a tour of the exhibition “Magic of the Theatre–Baroque Stage Technology in Europe” that went on show in six cities

  • organising a tour of the dance-opera "Moving Handel" with performances in four countries along the European Route

  • meetings of the route managers and the theatre managers to foster cross-border exchange

  • a concluding congress in Bayreuth (Germany) 2009

More information on the Congress 2009 can be found in the menu under "Congresses", details on the exhibition and the dance-opera under "Archive".
